In the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the authority and duties of a Notary Public are established under Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) Chapter 423. A notary is commissioned by the Secretary of State for a four-year term and must act as an impartial witness in signing and acknowledging legal documents.
Since January 1, 2020, remote and electronic notarization have been legally recognized in Kentucky under the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA), allowing notaries to perform services securely online using approved technology. All notarial acts must be carried out with integrity, privacy, and full compliance with KRS 423.300 – 423.455.
